October 21, 2011 - New Down Syndrome Test Hits Market
The Down Syndrome Association of Memphis & the Mid-South (DSAM) is increasing it’s medical outreach strategy in light of the release of a non-invasive pre-natal test for Trisomy 21, the most common genetic cause for Down syndrome. San Diego-based Sequenom is a biotechnology company that made the test available in 20 cities earlier this week. The seventh annual Down Syndrome Awareness Picnic will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Goodman Oaks Church of Christ, 1700 Goodman Road E. in Southaven. The Down Syndrome Association of Memphis & the Mid-South hosts this picnic each year as a way to promote Down syndrome awareness and inclusion within the community.

May 20, 2011 - STW Road Trip Stops in Memphis
Three Waynesburg University students made Memphis one of their many stops during their 75-day summer road trip. The trip will take them across 35 states with one mission: to promote the Spread the Word to End the Word campaign and advocate for full inclusion for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
