The Down Syndrome Association of Memphis & the Mid-South (DSAM) and Bright Song, LLC has collaborated to develop Bright Steps. The goals of the Bright Steps program include:

  • Providing parent education about Down syndrome and their child’s development
  • Encouraging parents to network with each other for continued support outside of the program
  • Inviting guest speakers to discuss various topics of interest to parents to increase their awareness about specific medical, financial and emotional issues associated with having a child with special needs
  • Assisting parents while navigating the Early Intervention system

Bright Steps is a family-centered training program focusing on ther-a-play. Parents and caregivers of infants and toddlers, up to 18 months old, with Down syndrome will learn teaching and therapy techniques they can use during daily activities while caring for and playing with their children.

Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.
